In homage to being put on the Modernist Route of Europe, the citizens of Alcoy look back to the city’s golden age when goods made in Alcoy were shipped around the world.
Of course, it was not only milk and honey with the woman of Alcoy taking to the streets in search of a voice carrying placards that read “The vote for women is a right” while chanting “we want to vote”.
The event centres around Glorieta Park and the Plaza de España incorporating many of the city’s modernist buildings on San Nicolás street.
Umbrellas, lace, top hats and canes are out in force, adding a cultural perspective to Alcoy’s Art Nouveau heritage.
This year’s modernist week takes place between the 17th and 23rd of September 2018.
