Man arrested in Alcoy for worker exploitation

The National Police have arrested a 43-year-old man in Alcoy for a crime against Workers’ Rights and Trafficking in Human Beings. The investigation that led to this arrest was initiated by the Aliens Brigade of the Alcoy Police Station in June after receiving anonymous information.

During the investigation, a statement was taken from a victim of labor exploitation who voluntarily went to the National Police Commissioner. According to the complainant, the employer made him work seven days a week, in the morning and afternoon, for which he received a weekly salary of 150 euros. He said that he slept on the warehouse floor and shared food with another worker living under the same conditions.

Both received instructions from the employer not to open the warehouse door to anyone under any circumstances and notify him if they detected any strange movement of vehicles. After raiding the warehouse, the police confirmed the victim’s testimony and arrested a 42-year-old man for breaking Spanish labor laws.

This is the second arrest in two months of people connected with second-hand clothing recycling in the area.
