Health professionals and citizens demand more resources for the Alcoy Health Area

According to those involved in the protest, the region’s largest hospital lacks trained medical staff. There are not enough doctors on duty in the Emergency Room and the Hospital and not enough anesthetists to activate the operating rooms.

Doctors at the Virgen de los Lirios hospital have called the situation a serious threat to everyone’s health and have been backed by the public, who turned out in large numbers to let their feelings be known.
When speaking at the protest, Alcoy oncologist Alfredo Rizo said:

“There are still those who have not found out that the Alcoy Health Department is dying.”

The complaints have been addressed both to the hospital management and to the Valencian Government Health Department.
