The Civil Guard has arrested three people in Cocentaina as alleged perpetrators of a crime of theft and another of belonging to a criminal group. The patrol surprised them when they had just stolen the catalytic converter from a vehicle, although they suspect they may have stolen at least two more.
Officers spotted a vehicle traveling at a slow speed with the lights off; when they proceeded to identify them, they found several vehicle parts that looked like they had been forcibly removed and showed irregular cuts. Among the elements, a corresponding catalyst with a specific vehicle brand stood out.
The Local Police, together with the Civil Guard, searched the area for a vehicle of the same make and model. In one of the streets, they found a car of this brand, and when inspecting it, they saw that the catalytic converter was missing.
Thieves target catalytic converters because they contain precious metals, like platinum, palladium, or rhodium, valuable to metal dealers.
