Alicante Airport Sees Record Number Of Passengers
Alicante-Elche Airport (ALC) has seen a record 15 million passengers pass through the airport in 2019.
Having good connections and the areas out of season beauty, are being touted as reasons for the increase in passenger traffic.
In 2019 Alicante-Elche Airport has seen an 8% increase in passenger numbers compared to 2018 which will mean that 15 million passengers visited the Costa Blanca in 2019 compared to 13.9 million in 2018.
Passenger numbers were up 8% on last year
An 8% increase in travelers throughout 2019 means that Alicante-Elche Airport will close the year having dealt with over 15 million passengers in 2019.

After having a very busy summer and an above-average number of visitors in the low season, the 2018 passenger figure was smashed before the busy Christmas and New Year period.
December 21st was the busiest day of the year
The busiest day for the airport was Saturday, December 21st, with 48,262 travelers flying to or from ALC.
This new figure of 15 million now means that ALC is on par with London Stansted, Palma, Málaga, Prague, Athens and Milan when it comes to passenger numbers.
Despite all the doubts surrounding the U.K. leaving Europe Brits using Alicante Airport was up by 4.4% to 1.9 million to prove that the region is still a popular destination despite Brexit.
New airport runway viewing area to open in 2020
New for 2020 will be an outside smoking terrace and the possibility of linking the airport to both Alicante and Elche by rail.
Sources at the airport’s operator AENA have said that the outdoor smoking area will be part of a local “sports bar/pub” of 317 square meters on the corner of the building in the boarding area of the terminal.
The same sources have stressed that it will have spectacular views of the landing and takeoff of aircraft with the sea in the background. This will now allow travelers to enjoy the outdoors and the generally good weather while waiting for their flight.
The rail idea is nothing new and in our opinion a virtual none starter, given the costs and environmental impact of the project.
Currently, the number C6 bus runs on a 24 hour a day loop between Alicante Airport and the city with buses every 20 minutes.
