After having disappeared from the local landscape the Ministry of Agriculture and Ecological Transition has released specimens of the Lesser Kestrel in Alcoy.
The initiative, which seeks the reintroduction of this bird, has been developed in conjunction with the Wildlife Recovery Centre “La Granja” in El Saler.
As explained during the releasing ceremony, the objective being pursued is to reintroduce the bird, as it is an important part of the cereal ecosystem.
In attendance were the regional secretary Paula Tuzón, the department’s wildlife chief, Juan Antonio Gómez, and the mayor of Alcoy, Toni Francés.
The Lesser Kestrel is a small falcon often seen hovering as it searches for prey.
