Confined to the upper part of the Sierra Helada natural park the fire poses no immediate threat to Aqualandia and has been designated a “Level 1 emergency” the lowest of three levels on the scale for forest fires.
A spokesperson from Alicante Consorcio Provincial de Bomberos said the fire is burning in a ‘steep’ and ‘hard to reach area’, requiring the use of planes.
Smoke from the fire can be seen from Benidorm and as far away as Altea.
