Alcoy to stay in the European digital city program until 2021

Alcoy will stay in the “Digital Cities Challenge” program of the European Union for three more years. The program consists of introducing digitalization in the operation of the administration as well as in the business and social fabric of European cities. In the case of Spain, there are only three city’s included in this project: Alcoy, Algeciras and Granada.

Alcoy mayor, Antonio Francés, after attending the fifth seminar of “Digital Cities Challenge”, announced that the European Union has renewed this program with Alcoy and highlights the journey made and the new opportunities that now open. “The result of the program has been very positive, we have advanced as a city and the digitalization begins to be assumed by all when a few years ago no one spoke or believed it, now we have the opportunity to continue deepening in this digitalization, incorporating artificial intelligence issues with the help of the European Commission, it is great news for the alcoyanos, “said the mayor.

The digital city program has European funds and according to municipal sources, Alcoy has been invited to take part in the new initiative that the European Commission will launch later this year, under the name of “Intelligent Cities Challenge”.
