Alcoy to promote Neolithic rock paintings at La Sarga
In this year’s budget, the city of Alcoy has set aside 260,000 euros to help renovate Mas de la Cova turning into a visitor centre complete and car park.
Declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1998, the rock paintings at La Sarga date back 7,000 years to the Neolithic Period when hunter-gatherers started to cultivate the land.
The Councilor for Heritage and Tourism, Lorena Zamorano, has indicated that “conservation and dissemination at all levels is an obligation (…) With the Visitor Centre, we will see a task of enhancing the value of a unique heritage resource our territory, as well as a dynamic focal point of the paintings “.
