Spain and the UK agree voting rights for residents after Brexit

Spain and the UK signed an agreement in Madrid, Tuesday guaranteeing the voting rights of citizens resident in either country no matter what the final Brexit outcome is.

This deal now allows Britons resident and Spain and Spaniards resident in the UK to run for office and vote in the upcoming European elections to be held in May.

The deal will guarantee the status quo ahead of the local elections that Spain will hold on May 26, and the UK will hold on May 2nd.

After signing the document undersecretary of state for the Department of Exiting the European Union, Robin Walker, said the deal would “even cover a no-deal scenario.”
