Spain’s monarchy releases their annual Christmas card

Spain’s royal family have released a picture which will be on their annual Christmas card.

The photo taken during a recent trip to Asturias shows King Felipe and Queen Letizia posing with their daughters Princess Leonor and Princess Sofia.

The family trip was Princess Leonor’s first official visit as heir to the Spanish throne, leaving royal commentators to guess the choice of photograph is a significant step in establishing the young princess as Spain’s next monarch.

Despite being only 13 years old, Princess Leonor has already begun taking on official royal engagements, making her first public in October at an event to celebrate the fortieth anniversary of Spain’s constitution.

Inside the card, the family wished its recipients a happy Christmas and New Year, with signatures from the entire family.
