During the month of October the Guardia Civil caught 31 people trying to enter Spain illegally, eight of whom were children travelling alone.
This brought the number of stowaways intercepted in Almeria to 117 so far this year. Many were found hiding inside vehicles carrying goods and in the trunks of passenger vehicles.
Particularly concerning to the Guardia was the number of people risking their lives by trying to conceal themselves underneath lorries in the wheel arches and even engine compartments.
