Orange Alert for the Valencian Community

An orange alert has been issued to the Valencian Community ahead of a new storm of torrential rain that arrives on Thursday.

The highest rainfall will be concentrated in southern Catalonia, the Valencian Community, the Balearic Islands, southern Aragón, eastern Castilla-La Mancha, Murcia and the eastern half of Andalusia

The Mediterranean area will once again be the focus of media and meteorological interest this week. Meteorologists will speak again of Isolated Depressions and torrential phenomena. The stormy weather this autumn and the effects of heavy and persistent rain return to the Mediterranean regions. As of Thursday, scenes similar to those we have seen due to hurricane ‘Leslie’ or the catastrophic storm of Mallorca last week may recur.

According to the meteorological models, although it is a very bad situation to predict, as of Thursday afternoon the stormy activity and persistent heavy rains in the eastern half will be reactivated due to an Isolated Depression in Nivele Altos, the famous DANA that already He visited us in mid-September.

This storm will influence a very humid current towards the peninsular east coast that according to AEMET, “will lead to strong and persistent rainfall, with storms and accumulations that may exceed 100 litres in 12 hours and, depending on the day, will focus on different areas of the Mediterranean area of the peninsula and the Balearic Islands

The State Meteorological Agency has already begun to alert the population with a statement of this dangerous situation. The orange warning for intense rains and abundant accumulations of precipitation have been activated for Thursday in the Valencian Community and in Tarragona. There is also strong swell alert in these sectors.

They relate the evolution of the storm between Thursday and Saturday: “During Thursday 18, the most intense rainfall is expected in areas of Catalonia, Aragon, Valencia, Andalusia and the Balearic Islands. On Friday 19 will probably be located in areas of the Catalan coast, southern Aragon and north of the Valencian Community. On Saturday 20 it is expected that they affect large areas of the communities of Valencia and Murcia and the Mediterranean area of Andalusia.

On the other hand, it is expected that these showers and storms also affect other points of the Peninsula: they would be the neighbouring regions to the west; and although it is not ruled out that locally they can be strong, they will not be as intense as those foreseen in Valencia, Castellón, Baleares and Tarragona.
