Dramatic Costa Blanca paraglider rescue

Alicante Firemen have rescued a paraglider pilot found dangling 100-metres (300-feet) on the side of a Costa Blanca cliff face.

A sudden gust of wind blew the 21-year-old towards the cliff where his chute got caught up on rocks.

After receiving a 112 call, emergency services were quick to respond but were unable to winch the young man into a helicopter fearing that the choppers downdraft could dislodge the parachute sending the thrill seeker to his death.

Fire-fighters repelled 60 metres down the cliff to where they were able to cut the paraglider free from his harness and call in the helicopter to fly the injured pilot to Vega Baja Hospital in Orihuela.
