Alcoy to regulate the use of electric scooters

Following a surge of new electric scooters Alcoy has decided that coming out with an ordinance to regulate the use of Scooters, Segway’s and Bicycles is long overdue.

“Current technology has made it possible for new means of transport to proliferate and regulation has become necessary to avoid accidents and solve the regulatory vacuum that exists on our city streets,” said Estefania Blanes, spokesperson for the town hall..

Legislators have indicated that for this new ordinance, all aspects with regard to these new forms of transport should be taken into account. Physical characteristics of weight and dimensions, priorities of transport, maximum speed, parking places, mandatory helmet or not, age and types of use, reflective elements and obligatory insurance or not, are just some of the elements to be taken into account for the new law.
